Capacity Planning
How to allocate squad capacity to initiatives in StartConsole.
The Capacity section in StartConsole lets you track how much of each squad's time is committed to active initiatives. Allocations are set as percentages per squad per initiative per month, giving you a clear view of whether any squad is over-committed before work begins.
Setting up squad capacity
Before you can allocate capacity, each squad needs a monthly capacity defined. This is the total available effort for that squad in a given month, expressed as a number of person-days or as a percentage of full capacity.
- Go to Settings > Organization
- Scroll to the Squads section
- Click on a squad name to open the squad settings
- Enter the squad's monthly capacity (in person-days)
- Save
Repeat for each squad in your organization.
Allocating capacity to an initiative
- 1
Navigate to the Capacity view
Click Capacity in the left sidebar. The Capacity view shows a matrix of squads (rows) against months (columns), with each cell showing the current allocation percentage for that squad in that month.
- 2
Select the initiative
Use the Initiative filter at the top of the Capacity view to select the initiative you want to allocate capacity for. The matrix updates to show only the allocations relevant to that initiative.
- 3
Enter allocation percentages
Click on a cell in the matrix (the intersection of a squad and a month). Enter the percentage of that squad's monthly capacity committed to this initiative (e.g. 40 for 40%). Press Enter or click outside the cell to save.
