Portfolio Health Scores
How to read and act on portfolio health scores in StartConsole.
The portfolio health score gives you an at-a-glance indicator of the overall condition of your initiative portfolio. Rather than reading through every signal and RAG status individually, the health score surfaces a single consolidated view of how your portfolio is performing.
Where to find the health score
Open the Dashboard from the left sidebar. The health score gauge is displayed prominently at the top of the Dashboard. The gauge reflects the current portfolio condition based on active signal activity and delivery performance across all your initiatives.
A higher score reflects a portfolio with fewer active signals and stronger delivery performance. A lower score indicates conditions that need attention are present across multiple initiatives.
Health scores update on each signal computation cycle. Check them weekly — ideally the morning before your executive standup or portfolio review — so you are working from current data.
Drilling into the contributing factors
Click the health score gauge to open the detail view. This lists each area that is contributing to the current score, along with a recommended action for each:
- Budget — whether initiatives are tracking within their allocated budgets
- Delivery — whether deliverables are being completed on schedule
- OKR progress — whether key results are advancing toward targets
- Capacity — whether squads are overallocated
- Dependencies — whether cross-initiative dependencies are at risk
Each flagged area links directly to the relevant initiatives so you can take action immediately.
Using the health score in meetings
The health score provides a useful opening point for executive standups and SteerCo meetings. Start with the score, call out any significant change from the previous week, then drill into the contributing factors to guide the discussion. This keeps meetings focused on the issues that matter most rather than reviewing every initiative in sequence.
If the score has improved since the last meeting, the drill-down view shows which signals were resolved — giving the team visibility into what progress has been made.
