StartConsole for PMO Directors
How PMO directors use StartConsole to govern the portfolio.
PMO directors are the primary day-to-day users of StartConsole. They are responsible for the quality of portfolio data, the governance of gate reviews, the monitoring and escalation of signals, and the production of portfolio reports for leadership. PMO directors typically hold the Admin role.
Pages you will use most
Portfolio view — Your daily working view. You are responsible for ensuring every initiative in the portfolio has an owner, accurate dates, a current status, and at least one OKR linkage. The Portfolio view is where you identify data quality gaps and chase owners to fill them.
Signals — Your primary governance instrument. Review the Signals page daily. Identify new flags, confirm they have been seen by the relevant owner, and escalate Critical signals that have not been acted on. Filter by category to run category-specific reviews during different meeting types.
Gate reviews — You are the facilitator of the gate review process. When an initiative is ready for a gate submission, you confirm the submission is complete, schedule the review session, collect approvals from the relevant stakeholders, and record the outcome in StartConsole.
Decisions — You are responsible for ensuring decisions made in portfolio governance meetings are logged. After every SteerCo, QBR, or gate review, confirm that all key decisions have been captured in the Decisions section.
Reports and exports — You produce the executive briefing export for leadership meetings. Generate the briefing on a regular cycle, select the appropriate sections for each audience, and distribute it as the standard pre-read.
Key actions by cadence
Daily: Review new and unresolved signals. Confirm owners have been notified and are acting. Escalate anything Critical that has not moved.
Weekly: Run a portfolio data quality check. Identify initiatives missing owners, missing dates, or with outdated status. Contact owners directly to update their initiative data before the weekly leadership review.
Monthly: Facilitate the monthly portfolio review session. Prepare the briefing export, confirm all signals from the previous period have been addressed or escalated, and present the portfolio health score trend to leadership.
At gate reviews: Prepare gate submission checklists, confirm required stakeholders are assigned as reviewers, record the gate outcome and any conditions of approval, and update the initiative status to reflect the gate decision.
