StartConsole for COOs
The pages and actions a COO uses in StartConsole.
As COO, StartConsole is where you monitor the operational health of the portfolio — whether initiatives are delivering on schedule, whether squads have the capacity to execute, and whether operational blockers are being surfaced and resolved.
Pages you will use most
Portfolio view — Your primary weekly view. Review all active initiatives, their RAG status, and their signal counts. Filter by pillar or squad to focus on specific areas of the organisation. Sort by signal count to identify the initiatives accumulating the most operational problems.
Capacity planning — The Capacity view shows squad allocation across all active initiatives. Use it to identify squads that are overallocated and initiatives that are competing for the same resource pool. Rebalancing decisions start here.
Signals (filtered to Delivery and Capacity) — Filter the Signals page to Delivery and Capacity categories. Delivery signals flag initiatives where deliverables are falling behind. Capacity signals flag squads stretched beyond sustainable limits.
Gate reviews — Gate reviews for resource-heavy initiatives often require operational sign-off. Review the resource and capacity sections of gate submissions before approving.
Key actions by cadence
Weekly: Open the Portfolio view and check all Red RAG initiatives. Review new Delivery and Capacity signals. Identify whether any squad rebalancing is needed before the week's work begins.
Monthly: Run a capacity review using the Capacity planning view. Look for sustained overallocation on specific squads and work with squad leads to redistribute or defer initiatives.
At gate reviews: Assess whether the initiative has the squad capacity to execute before approving progression to the next gate. Flag capacity concerns as a condition of approval if needed.
Notifications you will receive
- Capacity overrun signals — when a squad's allocation exceeds available capacity, a signal notification is sent
- Deliverable delays — when a deliverable passes its due date without being marked complete, a notification surfaces the delay
