Your First SteerCo
How to set up and run your first Steering Committee meeting in StartConsole.
A Steering Committee (SteerCo) meeting is where your leadership team reviews portfolio health, flags risks, and makes decisions on active initiatives. StartConsole gives you the screens and exports to run that meeting without building a deck from scratch.
Before the meeting
- 1
Ensure all initiative statuses are up to date
Ask initiative owners to update their status and any open deliverables at least 24 hours before the meeting. Go to the Portfolio view (Initiatives > Portfolio) to see the full list and check for any initiatives still showing stale data — the Last Updated column shows when each record was last edited.
- 2
Check the Signals panel
Open the Signals section from the left sidebar. Review which initiatives have active signal flags. These are the items most likely to need SteerCo attention — note them before the meeting so you can prioritize discussion time.
- 3
Export the portfolio snapshot
Go to the Portfolio view, click the Export button in the top-right corner, and choose PDF or CSV. The PDF export generates a board-ready portfolio snapshot with initiative statuses, RAG indicators, and key metrics. Send this to attendees in advance or bring it up on screen during the meeting.
During the meeting
Pull up the following screens in StartConsole on the meeting display:
- Dashboard — gives an at-a-glance view of overall portfolio health, capacity utilization, and OKR progress
- Signals — step through flagged initiatives one by one, using the signal detail panel to show supporting evidence
- OKRs — show current actuals vs. targets for the quarter so the committee can see tracking against strategic goals
