StartConsole for CTOs
The pages and actions a CTO uses in StartConsole.
As CTO, StartConsole gives you visibility into the technology pillar of your portfolio — the delivery health of tech initiatives, the capacity of your engineering squads, and the roadmap of technical work planned across quarters.
Pages you will use most
Portfolio view (filtered by tech pillar) — Use the pillar filter to see only the initiatives under your technology pillar. This narrows the portfolio to the initiatives you are directly accountable for and reduces noise from non-technical work.
Roadmap view — The Roadmap shows tech initiatives plotted across time. Use it to identify scheduling conflicts, overlapping delivery demands, and gaps in the quarterly plan. Roadmap planning sessions are most productive when run directly in StartConsole with the relevant squad leads.
Capacity view (filtered to engineering squads) — Filter the Capacity view to your engineering squads to see where allocation is concentrated and where headroom exists. Use this to make resourcing decisions before they become signals.
Signals (filtered to Dependency and Delivery) — Dependency signals are particularly relevant for tech initiatives, which often have cross-initiative or cross-team dependencies. Delivery signals flag engineering deliverables that are falling behind.
Key actions by cadence
Weekly: Review Delivery and Dependency signals for tech-pillar initiatives. Check whether any engineering squad is overallocated. Raise blockers in the relevant initiative before they escalate to leadership.
Quarterly: Run roadmap planning sessions using the Roadmap view. Set delivery dates for upcoming technical initiatives, confirm squad capacity, and ensure all tech initiatives are linked to the correct strategic pillar and OKRs.
At gate reviews: Review technical proposals at gate. Assess feasibility, dependency risk, and engineering capacity before providing technical approval.
Notifications you will receive
- Dependency delays — when a dependency linked to one of your initiatives is flagged as at risk, a notification is sent
- Deliverable blockers — when an engineering deliverable is flagged as blocked or overdue, the initiative owner and relevant stakeholders are notified
