StartConsole for Strategy Leaders
How strategy leads use StartConsole to maintain the strategic hierarchy.
Strategy leaders are responsible for the integrity of the strategic structure in StartConsole — the pillars, themes, OKRs, and the connections that link initiatives to the strategy. They also facilitate the cadence of portfolio reviews and configure the signals that keep the portfolio governance system working.
Pages you will use most
OKRs — Strategy leaders own OKR structure from the top down. The OKRs page is where you create and edit objectives, set key result targets, assign key result owners, and link initiatives to the strategic hierarchy. Keeping OKR linkage current is one of the most important data quality responsibilities in StartConsole.
Pillars and Themes — Access pillar and theme management from the Organisation settings or the relevant configuration section. Pillars define the strategic categories your organisation works within. Themes group initiatives within a pillar by focus area. These need to be reviewed and updated at least once per planning cycle.
Portfolio view — Strategy leaders use the Portfolio view to facilitate review sessions. Display the portfolio by pillar or theme to structure discussions around strategic areas rather than a flat initiative list.
Signals (Settings) — Strategy leaders with Admin role configure which signal categories are active for the organisation. Navigate to Settings > Organisation > Signals to enable or disable signal types based on the governance priorities of the current planning period.
Key actions by cadence
Quarterly (QPlan sessions): Run the quarterly planning session using StartConsole. Update pillar and theme definitions if the strategic focus has shifted. Create new objectives and key results for the coming quarter. Ensure all carried-forward initiatives are re-linked to the updated OKR structure.
Monthly: Facilitate the portfolio review session. Prepare by checking signal counts and RAG status across all pillars. Use the export function to generate a pre-read for leadership before the meeting.
Ongoing: Maintain OKR linkage quality — every initiative should be linked to at least one objective. When new initiatives are created, confirm they are assigned to the correct pillar, theme, and OKR before they become active.
